Information for Patients

If your dentist or surgeon sent your biopsy to us, here's what that means — and why your sample is in expert hands.

Why did my doctor send my biopsy to your lab?

Your doctor sent your biopsy to us for a specialized diagnosis. We clinically correlate every diagnosis and treat every specimen with care — your biopsy is not just a number to us.

Unlike general laboratories, our entire practice focuses exclusively on samples from the head and neck. Our pathologist is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. With years of experience in high-volume biopsy services, we provide your dentist or surgeon with the precise, specialized insights needed to guide your care.

What happens to my sample?

After your provider collects the tissue, it is preserved and shipped to our laboratory. There, it is carefully processed, prepared onto microscope slides, and examined by our oral and maxillofacial pathologist. We then send a detailed diagnostic report back to your treating doctor, who will discuss the results and next steps with you.

Was the biopsy fee included in my doctor's fees?

Our fee is not included in your doctor's charges. We will file an insurance claim for you if we receive the following:

  • A copy of your medical insurance card(s), front and back. Please indicate which is primary and which is secondary.
  • A copy of your Medicare and/or Medicaid card, if applicable.

Please fax (859-407-7060), mail, or email (office@bluegrassoralpathology.com) a copy of the above requested information. Please include a daytime phone number in case we have any questions.

If you have insurance, our billing service will file it for you. Otherwise, you will be responsible for all charges.
